Springbrook Village
This innovative low-income housing project was developed for the Vancouver Housing Authority by the Springbrook LLC, consortium. This is a mixed-use project, including a new YMCA and commercial pads. These additional projects were developed by others. The unit mix is (18) loft studios, (28) studio flats, (28) one-bedroom flats, (50) two-bedroom flats, (129) two-bedroom townhomes, (36) three-bedroom townhomes, (8) four-bedroom townhomes, and a 2,000 SF office/clubhouse with a 900 SF maintenance building. All housing units are integrated and distributed within three distinct basic building types.
Covington Commons
Derrick Swerhone was the principal in charge of this affordable housing development while in a previous partnership, HS/A. The Client Affordable Community Environments (ACE), a Community Development Corporation exists to “provide accessible, affordable housing with available support services in an innovative living environment for residents.” Covington Commons is a 40-unit community with a spacious community center. All units are flats: 20-2/bedroom, 4-4/bedroom, 8-3/bdrm, and 8-1/bdrm mix.
Shilo Heights
This seven-building townhouse development is part of a single-family detached planned unit development. The site is located along a high ridge, which offers fantastic views of the Columbia River. The townhomes are designed to blend with and reinforce the high-end residential homes on adjacent lots. These 3-story townhomes range in size from (1) bedroom 2,375 SF to (2) bedroom 2,527 SF. A 2-car lower-level parking garage is accessed downslope from a rear-back alley. These spacious homes are 24 ft wide, with a full lower-level bonus room suitable for bedroom use.

Green Gables is a 66-unit townhouse subdivision located in Ridgefield, WA. Avalon was provided by the client with a fully designed site plan. Avalon then designed a variety of buildings that respond to the site layout. Some units have rear-loaded garages, while others have garages located at the front. The townhomes are configured in 2, 3, & 4 family buildings.
