Hidden Homestead PUD

During his tenure as principal architect with Avalon (1998–2012), Derrick led the design and planning for Hidden Homestead, a 2.05-acre residential development subdivided into 22 tax lots. The project features 18 zero-lot line/common wall units arranged in three 6-plex clusters, along with four attached dwelling units in two duplex-style buildings. Derrick oversaw all site planning—including lot and street layout—as well as the full architectural design of each unit and building. He also guided the owner through all stages of the public hearing process.

Columbia Street Promenade

Columbia Street Study-Vancouver, WA The City of Vancouver is acquiring land and discussing plans for future development opportunities near the Esther Short Park area within the Vancouver Central Business District. The city had viewed this area as an exceptional opportunity to revitalize the Esther Short District and, subsequently, the Downtown area. The City formed a Columbia Street Study Committee (CSSC), consisting of active citizens, city planning staff, and two local firms providing urban design consulting. These consultants were J.D. Walsh Landscape Architect and Derrick Swerhone, Architect.

Saskatoon

South Downtown Plan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada During his employment with Kilborn Engineering, Saskatoon, SK, Derrick served as project coordinator for a complex planning study for the development of a critical portion of the city’s south downtown for the Mayor’s Task Force. Vancouver Parks and Recreation

The City of Vancouver Parks and Recreation retained Derrick to develop master studies for the following: A historic walk through the downtown, with interpretive stations located at historical buildings, with narrative and uses. Locate and design gateway locations into the downtown. Develop street typologies with mixed uses of pedestrians, public transit, vehicles, and bicycles.
