Cascadia Village Childcare/ Community Center Affordable Community Environments (ACE) sponsored a community initiative for a childcare/community center in the Covington neighborhood. ACE currently operates 75 adjacent low-income family housing. Derrick has been providing architectural services to Oak Grove Residential Care Facility over the past twenty years. (Fig. #A) The initial project was to assist Janus Youth Services convert an existing 8,200 SF former mental health facility into a Juvenile Crisis Residential Facility (CRC). (Fig.#B) A CRC is a juvenile intervention facility for the triage and detention of at-non-adjudicated-risk juveniles for up to 72 hours. The 30-unit Lutheran Family Housing & Daycare. This project involved (5) 6-plex residential townhomes specifically targeting single-parent families. The innovative aspect of this project was the detached 3,000 SF Daycare at the center of the project. As a condition of their tenancy, the families provided required volunteer hours at the daycare. This project was sponsored by the Saskatchewan Housing Authority. Derrick worked at the time at Gary Marvin Architect, Saskatoon, Canada.
