High-End Retail Center Design

As principal architect with Avalon from 1998 to 2012, Derrick Swerhone led the full architectural design for The Shoppes at Bridgeport, a vibrant lifestyle and Class A retail center in Tualatin, Oregon. Covering approximately 5.29 acres, the development includes three retail buildings totaling over 35,000 square feet, alongside a multi-level hotel (designed by others) and a structured parking garage.

The site design focuses on delivering a seamless and engaging shopping experience. It features pedestrian-friendly walkways, inviting plazas, and lush landscaping that encourage exploration and relaxation. The open-air layout supports a lively atmosphere that attracts both local shoppers and visitors alike.

Derrick’s work on this project reflects a strong commitment to creating dynamic, high-quality retail environments. By blending functionality with architectural character, The Shoppes at Bridgeport continues to thrive as a regional shopping destination.
