Cameo Building
Mixed-Use Redevelopment
Designed by Derrick Swerhone during his tenure as Principal Architect at Avalon (1998–2012), the Cameo Building is a vibrant mixed-use redevelopment in the heart of White Salmon, Washington. Located on Jewett Boulevard, the project revitalized a long-vacant lot once home to the historic Cameo Movie Theater, which had been abandoned after a fire.
This three-story building brings new life to downtown with a balanced mix of retail, office, and residential spaces. The ground and second floors feature 4,000 square feet of commercial space, designed to echo the scale and charm of surrounding architecture.
Above, six 1,350-square-foot condominiums offer stunning views of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, blending comfort with natural beauty. A thoughtfully designed structured parking garage, tucked into the alley 14 feet below street level, preserves the pedestrian-friendly streetscape while maximizing site efficiency.
By combining historic awareness with modern design, the Cameo Building strengthens the fabric of the community and helps restore the energy of White Salmon’s main street.
